Marine Captain Joseph McCarthy, a WWII Medal Of Honor recipient.
On February 21, 1945 Captain Joseph J. McCarthy earned the Medal of
Honor on Iwo Jima, while leading an assault team across exposed ground to
wipe out positions holding up the advancement of his company. The Medal
was presented by President Harry S, Truman in ceremonies at the White
House, October 5, 1945. Here is his citation:
